I have a special dream before every important cross-country meet. In this dream, I succeed in completely separating my mind from my body. I am just a spectator watching my body run. I watch myself quickly take the lead position. I run at full output the entire race. I float in the air with ease. My legs do not beg for oxygen. My breathing is normal. The strain of the race never reachs my mind to make me tired. I picture myself winning the race against the best runners in the state, runners who have beaten me all season. I feel certain I am going to win the race, because I have discovered the secret of victory.
